Looking for a great place to see an awesome sunset with incredible vistas? You couldn’t find a better spot than Guna Peak, Laguna Beach. First off, the access point to this ¾-mile hike up to benches and an interpretive marker is less than 2 minutes above north Pacific Coast Highway. Click here to see a map for getting to the trial head and the trail...
Guna Peak, Laguna Beach is one of the jewels of the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park. This permanent public open space sits above the buried reservoir (the Louis J. Zitnik Reservoir), which is essential to effective wildfire management in the event of a fire. Guna Peak is on the ridgeline between Boat Canyon (to the southeast) and Emerald Canyon (to the northwest). A dirt fire road, called Boat Trail, connects Guna Peak to all of the 6,500 acres of the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park.
Join Kelly and I on the trail. Check out the video to see more of the beautiful vistas.
Kelly and I are going to do some of the other trails in and around El Moro Beach and Crystal Cove the week right before Christmas. See if a date works for you and Scott. I will take the pictures and you could do the writing or we could collaborate on both.
:)

wow! i'm so excited. i can't wait to drag varius batty out of the LA nightlife scene for some much needed RnR in crystal cove. hurry up, spring 2010 :)
Unfortunately as of today there is now camp ground to stay overnight. However, at El Moro Beach, which is part of Crystal Cove State Park, they are nearing completion with an awesome beach and canyon camping facility. This appears to be opening by the spring of 2010. So in just a few month you will have a wonderful overnight camping park on one of the great beaches along the California coast.
I will keep you posted. Everyday I am lucky enough to drive by it in both directions going to work.

Gorgeous! I definitely want to do this hike someday soon. Do you know which trail leads to a small camp ground where you can stay overnight?
