Growing up my parents spent a small fortune on Legos for my brother and me. Heck, we built a 12x12 foot replica lunar base in our bedroom as kids. Secretly I think my parents really enjoyed buying us boys a new Lego set. It was sure to guarantee them a few hours of peace and quiet while we feverishly worked putting it together.

Fast forward about 20 years and it’s now my turn to introduce my son to Legos. We recently took a trip to LEGOLAND (www.legoland.com) in Carlsbad, CA. Hard to believe but this would be the first time either of us had been. My son Dylan was quite excited the week before we went; asking me daily if today was the day we were going. Although at times it can get on one’s nerves being asked over and over again, it’s fun to see how excited little ones can get.

Adventure seems to be the best word to describe Legoland. There is a ton of stuff to see and do. A must see is Miniland USA. Here the talented staff has created the entire Las Vegas Strip and New York City to name few. I felt like Godzilla walking around cities created out of Legos.

LEGOLAND has a ton of rides and places to eat. We enjoyed some tasty burgers at Castle Burger. The part I like the most about LEGOLAND was the places for kids to interact and play. My son had a blast at the Hideaways play area. He would climb up rope ladders, walk the catwalks and hit the slides. You don’t necessarily have to go on a ride to have fun at Legoland. The day we attended LEGOLAND was also the very first day that school was out for summer recess. This meant the place was packed with little guys and girls running everywhere. Even with all these kids we were still able to go and do everything we wanted. A couple of the lines were long but that’s typical with any theme park.

Located in Carlsbad, CA Legoland was an easy drive for us from Orange Country. Parking was easy too, which always helps. I will definitely return there with my kids again. My son and I had a great experience.
