Theatre and Dining

Over the years, I’ve noticed that combining “Dining” with “Theatre” can prove to be a difficult task.  Somehow most theatres just can’t seem to find that magic.  They always seem to compromise the quality in dining in exchange for the theatre experience. Of course, in the larger metropolitan areas such as New York and Los Angeles, top-tier venues seem to be ubiquitous, but you’ll seldom find them in Orange County.

That being said, I believe I’ve found a winner in the Encore Dinner Theatre & Club. Located in downtown Tustin, the 50-year-old theatre has recently undergone an ownership change, providing it with the talent and TLC it has desperately needed.  With a spacious setting (seating around 250 customers), wonderful acoustics, and a prime location, it’s hard to believe its potential has only recently been exploited.

The Encore Experience

With dim romantic lighting, a solo pianist, and warm greetings from the hosts, entering the Encore is a complete blast from the past. After a quick stop by the ticket window, I was kindly led by a hostess to my spacious booth.  At a glance, I noticed there is not one bad seat in the house.  Each table has a classic arrangement with an excellent view of the stage; suitable for both intimate and family environments.  As much as I love a good ambiance created by lush leather seating and sparkling chandeliers, I never lose sight of what matters most to me… food!

The Menu

The Encore has crafted high standards for their dining options, with the menu developed by former Rusty Pelican Chef John Apperson. This explains why you really can’t go wrong with any one of their options. For appetizers, I tried the Italian sausage sampler, which hit the spot with its delicious duo of dipping mustards and roasted bell peppers.  The Chilled Shrimp Trio appetizer was just as flavorful, thanks to John’s superb sauce skills. For dinner, I ordered the stuffed salmon dish with lemon thyme sauce, capers, and mashed potatoes. Simply divine!

The Theatre

When attending, I happened to catch the seasonal play, “Tis the Season”, a heart-warming tale about a Grandfather resurrected to explore the true meaning of Christmas with his Grandchildren.  Although, there will be many more plays to come, I hear they will be hosting alternative acts including stand-up comedians as well.  So keep an eye on their future schedules!

Encore Dinner Theatre & Club is located at 690 El Camino Real, Tustin. Find out more information by checking out encoredinnertheatre.comor by calling 855-545-5400.
